I'm hungry and angry at myself. “Scrape!” , I say to myself in spirit. “You have to wait for lunch in the cafeteria again.” I smile bitterly and recall my mom stroking my hair and praising that I eat snacks honestly and don't bring home any leftovers.
Probably every one of us has seen or experienced bullying on our own skin. It can take many forms. Often behind the motive of pathological behavior hides more than it may seem at first glance. In the search for the root cause, we can find a connection with relationships in the family, taking patterns from parents, siblings or peers. In light of these (often) hidden circumstances, our perspective changes and the aggressor becomes a victim bearing a history of grievances, injuries, violent behavior and educational failures.
Dealing with bullying is a very individual matter. It depends on the specific circumstances of each case, which is why it is necessary to proceed not only sensitively, but also quickly and accurately.
That bullying in some form in the classroom or in the team can occur is very likely. It's no shame to keep secret. On the contrary, it is necessary to catch it at the beginning, the late stages are already difficult to solve and belong to experts in bullying, such as Michal Kolář. In his book “A New Approach to Tackling Bullying”, he writes, among other things, that teasing is when they both laugh. Hurting when only one person laughs...
So what can be the general tips?
- Don't close your eyes! Watch. Ask questions.
- Be careful about the initial assessment of the situation and always examine it in detail.
- Prepare in advance. Have a crisis plan, you will then act faster and with surgical precision.
- Contact a specialist, do not be afraid to consult about the problem, you do not need to be alone for this.
- Be aware that the teacher/coach is primarily responsible for the children and the collective. And he should be able to:
- monitor/be able to read climate and relationships in groups and between individuals
- respond in a timely manner (not to be lax) with zero tolerance to the germs of bullying
- do not be afraid to solve the problem and, if necessary, invite colleagues for advice
